Voices of Women, Forces for Change, the latest issue of Devlop’, is finally available. We invite you to listen to the voices of women who are too often silenced by conflict, illiteracy, lack of knowledge about their health, and the tragedies they carry within them.

Listening to their voices means empowering women to take action: to be financially independent, respected, recognised, leaders in their communities... to change things, step by step.

As Dr Adélie, a medical consultant in Burundi, so aptly puts it: ‘We need to make women understand that they can achieve great things, show them examples of other women who have been able to get back on their feet and work so that they can follow the same path and empower themselves.’

This is exactly what we are working towards every day, alongside this committed doctor and all those who are fighting for a better future.

Literacy, entrepreneurship, health... for women

In this 21st issue of Louvain Coopération magazine, we take you on a journey through the twists and turns of women's emancipation, exploring the obstacles they face in certain regions in order to gain recognition and financial independence.

Dr Adélie will also explain what she is doing with Louvain Coopération to talk to women about their health, but also to improve their place in society.

We also discuss women's health in the context of the hellish conditions currently experienced by women and children in South Kivu. At our level, we are trying to bring some comfort to the victims of a conflict that is dragging on.

The Rector's point of view

Françoise Smets, Rector of UCLouvain since 2024, had not yet had the opportunity to express her views in our pages. That has now been rectified. In a lengthy interview, she discusses the collaboration between UCLouvain and Louvain Coopération, government measures concerning international cooperation, and the conflict in the Kivus.

Devlop' also takes you behind the scenes with our team. Enjoy reading.
