Last August, we shared with you the story of Bruno and his fellow fishermen, forced to go out to sea every day in fragile boats, risking their lives. Thanks to a wave of solidarity, this is about to change.

The daily lives of Madagascan fishermen are marked by the effects of climate change, industrial overfishing and the depletion of mangroves. Faced with these challenges, one solution was clear: access to motorised canoes, which are safer and better suited to their work.

A tremendous mobilisation

Many of you responded to our appeal. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to finance the production and purchase of 15 motorised canoes. These new boats will offer fishermen:

  • greater safety at sea,
  • more catches, guaranteeing food and income,
  • and the possibility of preserving mangroves by avoiding overfishing in these fragile areas.

Concrete prospects

For Bruno and his companions, each canoe financed represents a more stable future. It means they can continue to make a decent living from fishing, send their children to school, provide for their families... while preserving natural resources for future generations.

Let's continue together

There is still some way to go to reach the initial target of 25 canoes. But thanks to this first successful step, we know that together we can meet this challenge.

Thank you all for your solidarity.

Every donation counts, every gesture makes a difference. Let us continue to support Madagascan fishermen.
