Conference: The psychosocial approach at the heart of the integration of children living on the stree

How can we provide sustainable support to children living on the streets to help them on a path to integration? Beyond access to school, training or employment, psychosocial support plays a vital role in rebuilding trust, social ties and the ability to envisage a future.
Through a conference and panel discussions bringing together practitioners and experts, we will explore the challenges and practices involved in providing psychosocial support to children living on the streets.
An event to exchange perspectives and rethink integration as a process, going beyond simply getting them off the streets.

Speakers
Stéphanie Mbelu Ngenyibungi
A clinical psychologist and lecturer at the Kananga University of Education, Stéphanie has extensive experience in humanitarian emergencies, child protection and psychosocial support. At Louvain Coopération, she provides technical guidance to psychologists, educators and social workers and offers emotional support to the teams.
Eric Messens
A clinical psychologist by training (ULB) and former director of the League for Mental Health, Eric founded Terres Rouges in Belgium in 2008. He is currently chairman of the organisation in Benin, which takes in and supports children and young people living on the streets, placing psychosocial work at the heart of their care. For the past five years, he has also been involved in training and providing individual and team supervision in Belgium and Africa.
Hermann Jesse Hessou
A clinical psychologist, Hermann is the director of the Beninese organisation Terres Rouges, which specialises in the psychosocial care of children and young people living on the streets. He acts as a co-trainer on the ‘Learning Path’ programme, which is dedicated to sharing best practice in supporting children and young people living on the streets in Burkina Faso and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Isabelle Roskam
A professor of psychology at UCLouvain and president of the Institute for Research in Psychological Sciences, Isabelle is an internationally recognised researcher for her work on children’s behaviour, parental burnout and parental regret. She coordinates a vast research network spanning more than 40 countries. At the heart of her scientific commitment lies a desire to understand the diversity of parenting experiences, challenge preconceptions and contribute to a society that better supports parents and their children. She also works to make scientific knowledge accessible to professionals and the general public.
