Afro-Racine
Afro-Racines is a training programme designed for young people of African descent who wish to explore their identity, heritage and place within the university.
Focusing on the histories, legacies and contemporary dynamics of the African diaspora, the programme aims to strengthen participants' knowledge, agency and civic engagement. It concludes with an educational and cultural trip to Benin.
Afro-Racines is both a space for discovery and critical reflection, and a place for care, renewal and reconnection with the African continent.
"I took part in Afro-Racines because this project resonated deeply with my own story, my commitments and my aspirations. This experience provided me with a supportive, collective space in which to reconnect with my African roots and gain a better understanding of the richness of African-descendant heritage.
Through these encounters and discoveries, I’ve gained the confidence to talk about my identity, with a more nuanced understanding of the cultures and histories that shape it. Afro-Racines has also inspired me to continue sharing, exchanging ideas and getting involved in issues relating to memory, culture and the passing on of heritage."
