For a young person in a vulnerable situation, gaining access to a job can change everything. It means regaining self-confidence, becoming more independent, being able to support oneself and looking to the future in a different way.
In this issue of Devlop, we take you to meet young people in Benin, the DRC, Bolivia and Haiti.
Different, challenging contexts, but a shared ambition: to give young people – who are often faced with exclusion – the means to take control of their own futures.
In Haiti, helping RESEDH to prepare for the future
Steeve used to live on the streets.
Now he has a qualification and wants to work.
For the past ten years, RESEDH has been supporting children and young people in Jacmel (south-east Haiti) who are facing poverty, violence, imprisonment or life on the streets. Thanks to this support, they are returning to school, receiving training and acquiring vocational skills.
However, from January 2027, Louvain Coopération’s financial support for RESEDH will come to an end*. To continue its mission, our partner must now become more self-reliant.
It aims to develop two income-generating activities: the processing of local agricultural produce and printing/screen printing. These activities will enable them to generate resources, but also to create training opportunities for young people.

* For several years now, Louvain Coopération has been supporting RESEDH in its work with young people. From January 2027, this partnership will enter a new phase: Louvain Coopération will continue its work in Haiti, focusing its support on a different region and new partner organisations.

Contribution towards the purchase of equipment and the refurbishment of premises dedicated to training young people in food processing and printing

Paths to independence
The social and professional integration of young people is not simply a matter of teaching them a trade or helping them find a job. It also involves creating the conditions that will enable them to take their place in society, become more independent and build a sustainable life plan.
