The situation is critical,
humanitarian aid is vital
for their survival
Since the end of January, the civilian population of the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has been the first victim of the fighting raging in the region. The M23 rebels, accused of being backed by Rwanda, have taken up arms and are advancing deeper and deeper into Congolese territory, leaving hundreds of thousands of displaced persons in their wake, with looted and ransacked towns and a bereaved and terrified population. Women and children are, as is all too often the case, particularly targeted. Sexual violence is reaching levels never seen in recent years.
We are not in the habit of making urgent appeals for donations, but the situation requires it more than ever. We need you to act quickly, support health centers and provide vital assistance. In total, we need €50,000 to finance them.
- Tents, beds and mattresses to accommodate the injured in health centers;
- Basic medicines and medical equipment for surgical emergencies;
- Psychosocial support for victims and reinforcement of hospital teams;
- Nutritional kits for children in centers that care for refugees.

" When the fighting got closer,
we had to flee and hide in the forest with my whole family,
including my wife, who was in the final stages of pregnancy. Our living conditions are very harsh.
Our baby was born, but he couldn't stand them. He died and I mourn him bitterly.
We don't dare go home because our house has been occupied by various armed groups
and we fear that they have left explosives there."

The Democratic Republic of the Congo, the largest country in sub-Saharan Africa, has exceptional natural resources, including mineral deposits (cobalt, copper, etc.), great hydroelectric potential, vast arable land, tremendous biodiversity and the second largest rainforest in the world, larger than the Amazon rainforest.
However, most of the inhabitants of the DRC have not benefited from this wealth. A long succession of conflicts, instability, political unrest and authoritarian regimes has led the country into a humanitarian crisis that is as severe as it is persistent.
Today, the DRC is one of the five poorest countries in the world: 62% of its population - 60 million people - live on less than 2 euros a day.
Currently, to address the humanitarian emergency, Louvain Coopération is providing tents, beds, mattresses, basic medicines, healthcare equipment, psychosocial support and nutritional kits for children. Subsequently, as soon as possible, the projects will resume and we will draw up an inventory of the most pressing needs to rebuild the lives of those who benefit from our projects.
Because they are overwhelmed by the influx of injured people and refugees and urgently need equipment to treat and accommodate them. We support the health centers with which we have established a long-standing partnership and mutual trust.
